Consumer warning! Consumers warned to switch off potentially dangerous LG solar batteries immediately
NT Consumer Affairs are asking all Territorians with a solar storage system to urgently check if the system has a recalled LG battery installed. If they do, we are urging them to switch off the affected battery immediately.
The affected batteries can overheat and cause a fire, risking injury or death to those in the household.
All consumers with affected LG batteries in their solar energy storage system – which may be branded LG, SolaX, Opal, Red Earth, Eguana or VARTA – are urged to switch their energy storage system off immediately and to keep it switched off until they are remediated.
Even if you don’t have an LG-branded solar storage system, you may still have an LG branded battery that has been recalled.
Even if you have checked your battery against the recall notice in the past, it is strongly recommended that you check it again, as more batteries have been added to the recall list.
Please note that LG will compensate consumers who are out-of-pocket on their electricity bills as a result of switching off and not being able to use their battery. The important thing is to switch all affect batteries off immediately.
Consumer should:
- check their solar battery immediately against the recall list that can be found on the LG Energy solution website
- switch the battery off if it’s one of the affected models
- contact LG or SolaX to let them know you have a recalled battery and arrange a free replacement, refund or software update. LG or SolaX will let you know which remedy applies to your battery
- for LG or any other affected energy storage systems, contact LG on 1300 677 273 or via email productau@lgensol.com for further information
- for affected LG batteries in SolaX or Opal battery systems contact SolaX Power on 1300 476 529 or via email service@solaxpower.com for further information.
